BioPet Laboratories is a trusted leader in canine DNA testing with over 15 years of experience in animal genetics. BioPet operates its own accredited laboratory in Knoxville, Tennessee, where all testing is performed by experienced DNA scientists.
BioPet acquired Know Your Pet DNA to strengthen and expand its mission of responsible pet ownership through science-backed genetics. Know Your Pet DNA brings a trusted product and loyal customer base, while BioPet has established itself as a global leader in canine DNA testing, laboratory operations, and large-scale pet programs. Bringing these two together allows us to preserve what customers already value about Know Your Pet DNA while expanding BioPet’s services.
With BioPet’s support, Know Your Pet DNA will continue to operate with the same purpose and care, backed by BioPet’s genetics expertise. This transition maintains the integrity of existing results and the experience customers expect. Most importantly, it ensures Know Your Pet DNA can continue helping people better understand and care for their pets for years to come.
If your dog's DNA results were originally processed through Ancestry's Know Your Pet DNA program, you can migrate them to your BioPet account. To get started, you'll need your dog's unique Ancestry migration code. Begin the migration here: https://knowyourpetdna.com/account/migration
We identify the DNA patterns that match the expected patterns for a specific breed type in our extensive reference panel of known pure bred dogs. This lets us tell you all the breed types, and the percentage of that breed.
If you purchased a Know Your Pet DNA kit before BioPet acquired the program, that kit can no longer be used. Ancestry permanently discontinued their Know Your Pet DNA program in May 2026, and all kits were required to be activated before the program closed. Unfortunately, unactivated legacy kits are no longer eligible for processing. If you have questions about your kit or would like to purchase a new BioPet Know Your Pet DNA kit, please contact our support team.
